Photonics West, SAN JOSE, Calif.Alfalight, Inc., an innovative manufacturer of highly efficient and reliable high-power diode lasers, announced today at the Photonics West event (Booth # 242) the availability of their AMx-808B high-efficiency 808 nm line of chip-on-carrier and fiber-coupled single-emitter laser diodes. The improved power conversion efficiency (PCE) of these devices approaches 60% at room temperature and is over 55% across the entire operating temperature range of 0º C to 50º C. These diodes are ideal for pumping neodymium-doped micro-lasers with improved pump efficiency, resulting in longer pump diode lifetime and improved system efficiency. (more...)

LONG BEACH, CALIF. – CLEO/QELS 2006 – Alfalight, Inc., an innovative manufacturer of highly efficient and reliable diode lasers, today introduced their first commercially available Wavelength Stabilized Technology (WST) diode lasers: a 2 watt diode laser in a fiber-coupled package and a 2.5 watt diode laser in a chip-on-carrier package. A monolithically-integrated grating defines the 976 nm output wavelength, which is stable relative to changes in temperature and drive current while maintaining a narrow spectral width. These lasers do not require any cooling or external components to maintain wavelength, reducing their energy consumption by up to three times over a thermally-controlled pump laser. (more...)

Madison, WI - Alfalight, Inc., a manufacturer of highly efficient and reliable high-power diode lasers, today announced that is has been awarded $4.7 million in funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). This 18-month effort, entitled Architecture for Diode High Energy Laser Systems (ADHELS), aims to produce a multi-kilowatt diode laser system. Alfalight will develop devices capable of generating near-diffraction-limited output power targeted at 50 watts per emitter, ideal building blocks to combine into a multi-kilowatt, high-quality direct-diode laser. The effort has an additional 9-month follow-on option, which could result in a total potential value of $6.1 million for Alfalight. (more...)

Rio Grande, PR - Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (LEOS) 2004 Annual Meeting – Alfalight, Inc., a technology innovator and manufacturer of highly efficient and reliable high-power diode lasers, today announced that it has set a world record for power conversion efficiency in 976 nm diode laser bars. Developed with support from the DARPA Super High Efficiency Diode Sources (SHEDS) program, Alfalight has demonstrated a 50 watt, 976 nm laser bar with 71% power conversion efficiency (PCE) at 25°C and 73% efficiency at 10°C. These results were presented by Manoj Kanskar, vice president of Research and Development of Alfalight, at the conference on Wednesday morning. This achievement puts Alfalight well ahead of schedule in the Phase I SHEDS challenge to deliver 65% PCE diode laser bars to DARPA by March 2005, and approaches the 80% PCE targeted for September 2006 as part of SHEDS Phase II.
