Summary:  Located in Madison, WI, this position is responsible for developing state-of-the-art semiconductor lasers to support key programs in Alfalight’s advanced R&D projects.

Responsibilities:

• Model and design high power semiconductor lasers, DFB and DBR lasers
• Lead efforts to fabricate, test, and optimize designs
• Grating fabrication and optimization in semiconductor lasers
• Propose novel concepts for next generation products
• InGaAsP laser diode processing
• Write reports and proposals
• Lead R&D development projects

Qualifications:

• 5 + years hands-on experience in advanced semiconductor laser technology with strong emphasis in device design and fabrication of grating-coupled devices
• Strong industrial experience in device simulation, fabrication, test and reliability assessment of InGaAsP materials
• Practical experience with laser holography for grating fabrication
• Excellent understanding of metal-semiconductor contacts
• Experience with dielectric coatings
• Self motivated and strong team player
• Advanced degree in Physics or Engineering
